Philips Koninck was probably one of Rembrandt's pupils before he specialised in landscapes. He learnt this specialisation from his elder brother Jacob. Philips is mainly known as a painter of expansive landscape panoramas. Figures play a small role in these landscapes. In the past, drawings by Koninck were sometimes confused with those of Rembrandt.
