Aert van der Neer

Gorinchem circa 1603 - Amsterdam 1677

The landscape artist Aert van der Neer was probably born in Amsterdam, and apparently he lived in Gorkum until 1632, when he returned to Amsterdam. Van der Neer set himself up in Amsterdam as painter. From 1659, he was the landlord of 'De Graeff van Hollant', a wine bar in the Kalverstraat; it fell, however, into bankruptcy in 1662.
