James Rosenquist

After his art training, James Rosenquist earned his living by painting billboards. This appears to have been an important inspiration for his art. Rosenquist mainly produced large-sized paintings, in which the images were a collage derived from popular culture, such as advertising and pop music. Because of these works, Rosenquist is considered a key figure in the development of Pop Art in the sixties in the States. However, unlike other Pop Art artists, Rosenquist often shows political involvement in his works.
