Simon Vouet

Parijs 1590 - Parijs 1649

Simon Vouet was born in Paris and travelled and worked in Italy between 1612 and 1627. In Rome he became president of the Academy. In 1627 he took the style he had developed in Italy back to France, where he became a successful painter of large decoration commissions with religious and allegorical subjects. Vouet worked as 'painter to the king' under Louis XIII and painted decorations for, among other things, the Royal residence in St. Germain, Palais de Luxembourg and the Louvre.
