Evaristo Baschenis spent his whole life living and working in his birthplace Bergamo. He came from a family of painters, but originally set his mind on the priesthood. His still lifes showing musical instruments are unique in the 17th century. The detailing is reminiscent of Dutch still life painters of the same period, but the way the light falls shows the influence of Caravaggio.
