Biopik by Joep van Lieshout is made of polyester. Many works from his studio are made of this material and are on the cusp of visual and applied art. Many of his art works are also utensils or appliances. Van Lieshout wants to minimise the gulf between art and daily life. In addition to this work, he has also made a series of works that refer to primordial urges. Biopik is an example of this. Van Lieshout's work is an expression of the desire to expand the body. In that sense it can also be seen as an 'instrument' of desire.
