For many people, the Viennese company Thonet is synonymous with simply designed bent wood furniture. What is less well known is that, in the 19th century, this company also produced technically difficult items such as this extremely rare Biedermeier chair. The bent wooden hoops, which seem to be so easily fitted around the construction, are noteworthy. The original red velvet covering with braid and tassels is remarkably well preserved.
