Van Beijeren is best known for his sumptuous still lifes, but early on in his career he also painted seascapes and fish. This storm at sea could well be his, although it has also been attributed to Pieter Mulier. The fisherman in a small boat silhouetted dramatically against the tempestuous sky is a very typical Mulier detail. So who knows?
