Potter became famous as a painter of animals, which he captured magnificently. Sometimes, too, he painted the portrait of a special stallion or dog. In this particular case it is tempting to think that both horse and rider are not types but portraits. It was a clever idea to bring the horseman to a halt while letting the wind continue ruffling his hair.
