From 1959 Piero Manzoni made a series of works entitled Linea, in which he made a straight line with ink on a strip of white paper. He rolled the paper up in a tube with a label stating the length of the line and the date on which it was made. The line itself is not visible. These works contributed to Manzoni being seen as a forerunner of Conceptual art. Sonnenberg befriended him and received this Linea as a gift. The label does not give the length or date.
