Entry catalogue Italian Drawings 1400-1600

Author: Albert Elen

This is a folio from a hypothetical lost drawing book, a remnant of which is now part of an eighteenth-century album called the Gozzoli Album, held in Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen. For a general description, see here.

This page was originally folio [...]4 recto in the hypothetical lost drawing book. The folio number at top right is not visible (like the folio number at lower left covered by the album edge), but is probably two numbers behind it: […]2.

The finger smudges in the lower right corner confirm that this was originally a recto page. Long before the present album was constructed, the sheet was torn in the lower part, which was then subjected to a provisional repair.

Drawings of hands, in various gestures, are also found on folio 19 recto and 19 verso.
