The fantastic architectural setting in this depiction reduces the impact of the gruesome massacre. It is dominated by a monumental hallway with such strength of perspective that it draws the observer's gaze into the distance. In the foreground there are women and their children, but there are no dramatic poses or gestures. It is only on the right that we can see a man holding what may be a sword in his raised right arm as he seizes a child.
