The Finnish artist Salla Tykkä works with photography as well as film and video. Her cinematic work attracts attention because of the techniques and methods that are clearly borrowed from major Hollywood productions. In this work, which Tykkä dedicated to her father, we see a semi-naked woman defending herself against a large, powerful man. The woman is Tykkä herself, boxing with her father. The black and white images and the neutral and timeless surroundings create a dream-like atmosphere. At the same time the sounds of the fight pull the work back to reality. According to the artist the film is a statement against the balance of power in our society, but it can also be seen as a symbolic struggle for life and survival.
