This Italian apothecary jar is painted in multicolours, with a medallion on the body in the shape of a wreath of winged angel heads. It contains two smaller medallions with depictions of a female saint and underneath an African with headband and apothecary trademark that is made up of the letters P.A.Q. and a cross of Lorraine. A ribbon of text across the middle bears the inscription: TRIACA.F. that refers to Theriaca or the fever preventive theriac. The letter F following the word indicates that the prescription for this theriac was produced by the Venetian doctor Girolamo Fracastori (1478-1553). On the back, there is the date 1501.
