Ask anything

  • Sam Domingo asked

    Dear Team,

I hope all is well with you.

I am Sam Domingo, a curatorial trainee from the Trafo Center for Contemporary Art, and I would like to ask for permission to showcase Cyprien Gaillard's 2007 clip "See you all" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nFWgiZxnz7o) in his "Diesnansky Raion" (2007) video work in our upcoming international group exhibition "First Score In The Table" tentatively from April 21 - July 24, 2022.

We would like to know the possibilities for this partnership, as well as the honorarium included in Gaillard's involvement. To know more about our initiative, you may read about it below:

    First Score In The Table

"First Score In The Table" is an international exhibition of contemporary art dealing with the topic of
football and its socio-cultural consequences. In it, football is a metaphor for the present and can tell
about everything: the rules of social life, politics, art and aesthetics, love, philosophy, sex. On the one
hand, it shows contemporary football as a mass spectacle, connoting the issues of: tribal rituals,
identity politics, logic of global capitalism, mapping colonization divisions, social inequalities, sports
medicine, fan psychology, celebrities, branding and many others. On the other hand, football can
strengthen the community, be a "social glue" that breaks the logic of competition and race towards
equality of fair play, both on the pitch and in life.

Football is today a global discipline, involving millions of people as fans, professional or amateur
players, but also people employed in the broadly understood business related to this sport, media,
and gambling users. At the same time, football exists on many local and identity levels, bringing
together small communities, both based on more traditional patterns and those being formed anew.
Contrary to the usual patterns of perceiving football as male, the project will show the emancipatory
potential of the discipline on the examples of women's or amateur teams.

The exhibition will consist of classic works by artists taking up the topic and many new works created
    especially for the exhibition.

    Curators: Anna Ciabach, Stanisław Ruksza
    Graphic design: Kaja Gliwa
    Coordination: Ada Kusiak

I hope that you then reply back to our licensing request so, we can prepare for the exhibit accordingly. We would be looking forward to your speedy and positive response!

If an email does not work for you, then I hope you can provide us with your contact number (if you allow us) for efficient communication.

    Many thanks and take care!

    Health and cheers,
    Sam Domingo

More information

Gaillard’s work gives viewers the sense that they are looking at our society like an archaeologist in the future. The film shown here comprises three parts: a fight in Saint Petersburg between football hooligans and calls to mind 18th-century battlefields; the demolition of a modernist building near Paris; and aerial footage of Desniansky Raion, a suburb of Kiev, whose plan calls to mind assembled monoliths such as Stonehenge. The music by Koudlam adds to the apocalyptic nature of the footage.
