Unlike most lansquenets, this corporal of the field wears armour. His huge two-handed sword is carried over his shoulder, not in a scabbard. According to the inscription, the corporal of the field has just come from 'Geller lant'. In this period the Duchy of Guelders was at the epicentre of the battle for hegemony in the Low Countries.
