This soldier carries the typical weapon of the lansquenet: a long pike. These weapons were five or six metres long-too long to be illustrated full-length in prints like these. The metal tip consequently cannot be seen here. Swiss mercenaries like this 'Heyne' were called 'Reisläufer' rather than lansquenets. They can often be identified by the crosses on their dress, like the one on this man's right thigh.
