In the text Clas Winttergrön (wintergreen) addresses his 'son' Heintz. He wants to bring him up to be a lansquenet like himself. For the time being, though, the boy is still stealing chickens. The rural population had much to endure from the marauding lansquenets, particularly if they had not been paid on time.
