In 1523 Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent appointed Pargali Ibrahim Pasha (died 1536) Grand Vizier, a sort of first minister of the Ottoman Empire. He had tactical command at the Siege of Vienna in 1529. The text accompanying the woodcut is an open letter from Ibrahim Pasha to the Austrian high command, dated mid-October 1529, in which he informed them that he was coming to take Archduke Ferdinand I of Austria prisoner. Ferdinand was laying claim to the Kingdom of Hungary, which the Turks had captured in 1526.
