After Thorn Prikker’s entry for the council chamber in Rotterdam, for which this is a study, was rejected, Wijnand Mees donated it to Museum Boymans in 1922. The museum’s director, Dirk Hannema, exhibited three studies and the large canvas ‘The Harbour Industry’ in a new annexe of Museum Boymans devoted to modern art.
