The Confessional

Ask anything

  • Matt asked

If I am correct this is a print from an original painting of Ludwig Passini who made his work in 1870?

  • Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen answered

    Dear Matt
You’re right! There is a painting by Ludwig Passini from 1870 with the exact same image. The print we have in our collection is made by William Unger in 1879 after the design by Ludwig Passini. I am not sure why it has been made into a print, but this way it was possible to reprint the same image multiple times.
I hope I have been able to help you with this answer! Sofie
