Van Everdingen recorded the landscapes of Sweden and Norway with great sensitivity to rugged nature and the violence of the elements. The Scandinavian mountains and waterfalls provided him with subjects his whole life long. There is something romantic about his work, which was imitated by artists until well into the 19th century, even if they had not made that long journey to the north themselves.
