Gabriël carefully prepared the large painting of polders in the vicinity of Overschie with a chalk drawing and oil sketch. The drawing, which is also in the possession of the museum, has short notes concerning the colours he intends to use, varying from 'juicy grey' to 'blue juicy green' and 'grey dark green'. Using these tonal tints and several white accents, Gabriël has, with broad, easy strokes, created a panoramic landscape in which motive and surroundings are forged into one.
