This impression of Rotterdam, which is actually an imaginary view with the tower of St Lawrence’s, was once wrongly attributed to Pieter de Hooch before being reassigned to the Rotterdam painter De Jongh. No one believes that any more. In fact it is now anonymous again, but that does not make it any less original or mysterious. The boy in the boat, the woman on the bank - the mood is hushed.
