More information

This painting was made after Knip had returned home from France and Italy and could consider himself a fully trained painter. Animals and architecture play an important role in his carefully composed landscapes. This fantasy landscape seems to be Italian: the light is southern and behind the rocks with climbing goats a deep valley and mountains appear.
