While Van Rysselberghe’s early works are highly realistic and sober in colour, the Belgian painter’s later works increasingly focus on the effects of light and the subtle interplay of colours. He often included a mirror in his paintings; the reflection in the mirror adds another dimension to his examination of light and perspective.
