The Jews sacrifice a lamb during the passover in a synagogue. The red illustration on the altar is the key to the contents of this painting. It shows the murder of Abel by his brother Cain. This painting was part of a larger altar piece, of which two sections have been found. The first is the painting to which the master owes his name: 'The collection of the Manna' in the Musée de la Chartreuse in Douai; the other is 'The Crucifixion of Christ' in the same museum. It is possible that the original work consisted of four panels.
