Ask anything

  • Federica Pontini asked

    To whom it may concern,
I am Federica Pontini, student of the University of Florence and actually I study the fragments of Manetti Chapel for the thesis. Would you be so kind as to write me some materials of study about it, like bibliography and the image in digital format.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
    Yours sincerely,
    Fedeica Pontini

  • Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen answered

Hi Federica, for digital images I have to refer you to images@boijmans.nl. As for the bibliography: the object was mentioned here: S. Weppelmann, Spinello Aretino und die Toskanische Malerei des 14. Jahrunderts, Firenze 2003, pp. 207-208, cat. nr. 42, afb. 42c, en p. 215. And here's a selection from our library: https://bibliotheek.boijmans.nl/adlib312/detail.aspx?parentpriref= All the best, Rianne

More information

This is one of several surviving fragments of a mural from a Florentine chapel of John the Baptist, the prophet who baptised Jesus and recognised him as the Son of God. An 18th-century reproduction tells us this woman was one of the onlookers at the Visitation - the meeting between the pregnant mothers of Christ and the Baptist.
