The international theoretical discussions initiated by Asger Jorn, a founder member of CoBrA in 1949, made him a pivotal figure in Europe’s post-war art scene. He initially painted fantasy creatures in an expressive style, influenced by Edvard Munch and the French Surrealists. ‘Plein Air with Noseless Horses’ is more abstract. It seems improvised, full of energy, with dynamic shifts between light and dark.
