The placing of the figures shows that this group of statutes was originally placed above eye level above the altar. In the fragment, various scenes from the passion are depicted above each other. The mourning of the Christ is shown in the foreground, and behind it can be seen the burial and the resurrection. The way the figures become smaller and the less pronounced relief gives a suggestion of depth.
