    Hello,
Can we know more precisely the creation date of this reproduction ?(the forge after the Le Nain Brother’s)

  • Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen answered

    Hi Lucas,
The painting is a copy after the famous painting by Louis Le Nain in the Louvre, which was created around 1640. This copy, which is about half the size of the original painting, is probably by a Parisian artist from the second half of the nineteenth century. In this period there was a growing interest among realist writers and artists for the Le Nain brothers. Jules Champfleury, for instance, an author connected with the rise of realisme, devoted two publications to their work. In one of these he writes that he also saw a copy of 'The Forge' in the studio of Eugène Delacroix. I hope this is helpful. Kind regards, Els
