Ask anything

  • Katja asked

Are these patten based on a historical find? If so, where? And dated to when? THanks for your short info. Kind regards, Katja

  • Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen answered

Dear Katja, The patten you refer to - inv.no. F 5762 (KN&V) - is part of the archaeological collection Van Beuningen-de Vriese, here at the museum since the 1980s. The patten was originally found in the Dutch city called Leiden, in a cesspit at the Aalmarkt, and is dated 15th century. Images of late medieval pattens, as found in paintings and engravings from the period, you can find in our ALMA research project, that is part of our collection website: http://collectie.boijmans.nl/en/objects?search=patten. Introduction page of ALMA: http://collectie.boijmans.nl/en/research/alma-en. Kind regards, Alexandra Gaba - van Dongen
