More information

Together with Lancret, Pater was the main exponent of the 'Fête Galante' genre popularised by Watteau. Both artists studied under Watteau for a short time. Pater drew many studies from life models which he later used for his paintings. Watteau's motif of a young woman on a swing, like the one on the left in this drawing, appears in many of his paintings.
