Stained-glass windows are excellent examples of works that occupy the terrain between fine art and applied art. The painter Jacoba van Heemskerck frequently worked in this medium: she designed the windows and the studio of J.W. Gips in Delft executed them. The abstract style in which she worked is ideally suited to stained glass. Conversely, this technique influenced her painting style.
