This is the second of three studies for the saint on horseback, all of them
squared. In this study Fra Bartolommeo devotes most attention to
the muted light that plays across the constantly moving surfaces, in which
he combines Leonardo’s light-dark contrasts with the scintillating tones so
typical of Venetian art.
