More information

This is the most remarkable of the many preliminary drawings for the Pavia ‘Pietà’ because it was made from nude models. Two male
apprentices or ‘garzoni’ posed for the fgures. In the drawing the artist has focussed on the musculature of the upper torso of the Christ
fgure, paying much less attention to the limbs and heads. Of course, in the painting the fgure of Mary was depicted in full dress.
