Study for the Prophet in 'The Prophet Job', from the collection of Galleria dell'Accademia, Florence. 'The Prophet Job' is the right side panel of the 'Salvator Mundi', from the collection of Galleria Palatina, Florence.

In the years 1515-1516 Fra Bartolommeo painted an altarpiece with the 'Salvator Mundi', a risen Christ standing on a podium (now in the Galleria Palatina, Palazzo Pitti, Florence), with two side panels with prophets (now in the Galleria dell'Accademia, Florence), which was installed in the Cappella Billi in the church of Santissima Annunziata in Florence.

This is a study for the panel depicting the prophet which originally stood in a niche on the right of the central painting of the Salvator Mundi. On the banner in the painting there is a text which refers to it. Fra Bartolommeo made several studies for the fgure of the seated Job. In this drawing the artist concentrated on the pose and the folds of the garments. The unclothed lower body is indicated only sketchily. [text: Albert Elen]
