Study for St Bartholomew in 'The Mystic Marriage of St Catherine', from the collection of Musée du Louvre, Paris.
St Bartholomew stands to the right of Sts Francis and Dominic, with a book
under his arm. In the painting he is partially hidden behind the two saints
before and next to him (St Catherine of Alexandria and possibly St
Lawrence), but here he has been drawn as a full-length figure. He holds a lily
in his left hand, an attribute of St Dominic, which three other saints are
holding too. In the painting the lily is replaced by a knife, his personal
attribute.
