Study for the Weeping St Peter in the 'Pitti Pietà', from the collection of Galleria Palatina, Florence.
This is a fgure study for the standing St Peter on the left behind the central group. The saint, here as yet without his keys as his attribute,
weeps and dries his eyes with his cloak. The functional relationship only became clear after the restoration because the painting had been cut down at the top and the two standing saints had been painted out with black paint.
