Study for a Standing Monk with his Forearms Extended in the Lower Half of 'The Last Judgement', from the collection of Museo di San Marco, Florence.

In the composition of ‘The Last Judgement’ the damned stand below on the right-hand side, led by a monk with forearms slightly spread, his head tilted back and looking upwards. This highly worked study – which is possibly related to another, now unknown project – may have served as the starting point. The stance with the arms spread and the head gazing upward were the only aspects that were adopted and varied upon in the subsequent studies.
