In 1898 voltooide Denis een reeks van twaalf kleurenlitho’s die werd gepubliceerd onder de titel ’Amour’. De onderschriften van de prenten zijn afkomstig uit ’Les Amours de Marthe’, het dagboek van de kunstenaar. Hierin beschrijft hij zijn gevoelens voor Marthe Meurier, met wie hij in 1893 getrouwd was.
