More information

Schongauer lived and worked in Colmar in the Alsace region, but was well-informed about developments in Flemish painting. This composition is inspired by the work of Rogier van der Weyden. The Adoration of the Magi is one of the most frequently depicted scenes
in the art of the Middle Ages. The scene was intended to inspire devotion in those who saw the painting.
