The tulip, the flower imported from Turkey, caused an incredible tulip mania in the 17th century. Tall stackable flower vases such as these were only later linked with tulips; these vases were only called 'tulip vases' from 1900 onwards. It is open to question whether such vases were, in the 17th century, actually produced for tulips. Probably, in the 17th century, people would use them for mixed bouquets.
