Joep van Lieshout studied at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam and in 1992 won the prestigious Prix de Rome for sculpture. Van Lieshout is the founder of Atelier Van Lieshout, for which he has been producing work with his team since 1995. The works consistently concentrate on the area where art, design and architecture meet.
Van Lieshout has also worked under commission for various clients including Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, the Centraal Museum in Utrecht and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The Atelier Van Lieshout is housed in a warehouse in the harbour area of Rotterdam.
