Cornelis Troost

Cornelis Troost was also called the Dutch Hogarth, after the British artist who became famous for his satirical depictions of everyday life among the British well-to-do classes. The work of Troost, however, generally lacks the satire. Inspired by Hogarth, he painted conversational pieces, intimate scenes of everyday household life. But he also painted scenes from the theatre and moralistic genre pieces.
