Charles François Daubigny's father was a painter and his first teacher. After a trip through Italy in 1836, he worked for some time as caretaker in the Louvre. In this period he painted his first landscapes. In 1838 he made his debut at the Paris Salon. Daubigny belonged to the Barbizon School, together with Millet and Rousseau. From 1866 to 1870 Daubigny lived in England, where he met the painter Monet in London. Later he'd make a trip to the Netherlands with him.
