Rineke Dijkstra studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and subsequently worked as freelance photographer for magazines such as Elle and Quote. In the 'nineties she began making a name for herself with her free work. Her series of Beach Portraits contributed to Dijkstra's international fame.
