More information

In 1948 the Eames Office designed an innovative series of plastic chairs for the International Competition for Low-cost Furniture Design’ organised by the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The Eames Plastic Chair was derived from this series. This chair went into production in 1950 and was the first industrially-produced chair made of plastic. The use of fibreglass meant that the seat could be made from one section, so the chair was easy to reproduce and widely affordable.
