Tejo Remy used existing drawers for this design, forming them into a new chest with the aid of a strap. Robinson Crusoe, the famous fictional character, was one of his main sources of inspiration. Crusoe was shipwrecked and stranded on an uninhabited island, where he created his own world with what he had available. This idea of improvisation and chance lies at the heart of Remy's design. The chest also refers to the Greek philosopher Socrates's metaphor for memory. He said that by putting your recollections in a specific 'place' you can strengthen your memory.
