More information

The collector Willem van der Vorm had five small paintings by Fantin Latour. This glass with peonies is the most typical. The softness of the petals of the heavy and slightly floppy flowers is beautifully observed, and their delicate colouring is captured superbly. The artist himself somewhat regretted the success of works like this, complaining that he had to repeat himself too often.
